Dear Readers,
I am Selina Lau. I am one of the 5 member team undertaking the Drive for Hope China to UK overland journey in July to August 2008.
I am a regular runner. I run to keep a reasonable degree of fitness, but I would not describe myself as a sportswoman. Running is something that I do enjoy on a good day, but is nonetheless something that takes an effort for me to do.
Every person I know and have talked to, have without exception shared the feeling of deep sadness and sympathy for the victims of the Sichuan Earthquake and their families. Everyone would like to be able to do something, no matter how small, to help lessen the suffering of those who have been and are still suffering, and to contribute to the rebuilding of the region, including in particular schools, in such a way and to such a standard as would ensure as much as is humanly possible that avoidable damage and destruction could be avoided in the future.
There are of course many renowned established non-profit organizations such as Medicins Sans Frontier, World Vision, Red Cross and many others who are already assisting in the day to day provision of shelter, food and care for those affected and in the rebuilding efforts. They are no doubt doing very good work. Nonetheless, instead of contributing funds to these large organizations, we wish to focus on something small and something over which we could track the progress of. Another one of our members, Bobby Man, who is also a veteran fund raiser for¡Khas been in contact¡K.
Once the pledges are all collected after the conclusion of the journey, we will¡K.and thereafter¡K.and will keep progress posted on this site. Further, you could email us¡K.
I will myself take the lead and pledge to contribute $500 for every 5 kilometres of run that I complete during this journey. I ask you please to consider at least matching my pledge and, better still, beating it. Just fill out the attached Sponsorship form, and we will contact you at the conclusion of the journey and let you know the final result.
Many thanks & yours faithfully
SELINA LAU
